Scallywag Manhattan whiskycocktail van de maand
September brings us the beginning of fall, signaling the slow approach of typical autumn weather. To celebrate, we've chosen a classic for this month's cocktail: the Scallywag Manhattan cocktail.
The weather in the Netherlands is about to shift from a sun-filled wonder to a juggling act between the sun, rain, and wind. It's September, ushering in the official start of fall.
Therefore, it's time for an appropriate cocktail that mirrors this balance. How about a harmony of sweet, strong, and spicy in a spirit-forward cocktail?
This is precisely what the Scallywag Manhattan whisky cocktail encapsulates. We'll tell you how to make this classic.

What do you need to make the cocktail of the month for September?

To create the Scallywag Manhattan, you need to have the following 'groceries' at home:
  • 25ml Scallywag Speyside Blended Malt Scotch Whisky
  • 15ml Nordés Vermouth Red - Rojo
  • One Maraschino cherry (as garnish)
  • Ice cubes
Also, ensure you have a strainer, a mixing glass, and a cocktail glass. The mixing glass can be anything since you'll present the cocktail of the month in the cocktail glass. For the latter, you could, for instance, use a champagne glass or a martini glass.

Once you have all the ingredients for the Scallywag cocktail at home, it's time to get to work. Here’s how to make the Manhattan:
  • Fill both a cocktail glass and a mixing glass with ice.
  • Pour the Scallywag whisky into the mixing glass, along with the Nordés Vermouth.
  • Stir the mixture well.
  • Now remove the ice from the cocktail glass.
  • Strain the cocktail from the mixing glass into the cocktail glass.
  • Garnish it with a Maraschino cherry and you're done.

Scallywag whisky for a sweeter note

The Scallywag Speyside Blended Scotch whisky gives the classic whisky cocktail an interesting twist. Thanks to its Speyside heritage, the whisky makes the Manhattan somewhat softer and sweeter.
The tasting notes of the Scallywag whisky consist of stewed fruit and dark chocolate on the palate, complemented by nutmeg, cinnamon and hints from the sherry casks.
Using this whisky instead of the traditional rye whiskey or bourbon results in a cocktail with more fruity notes that will undoubtedly appeal to those with a sweet tooth.
So, kick off the fall season strongly with this spirit-forward classic.
