Where earlier bottlings showcased classic bourbon and sherry influences, this new expression ventures into fruitier territory with a nine-month finishing period in Bordeaux red wine barrels. The whisky first matured in first-fill bourbon casks before being transferred into wine casks, resulting in what the distillery calls 'an elegant note from the vineyards of Bordeaux' layered onto the signature Campbeltown profile.

A beautiful experiment

This release represents an experimental spirit from Master Distiller Iain McAlister, inspired by Campbeltown’s rich trading history. The town once thrived as a hub where goods and flavors from around the globe converged, an influence McAlister wanted to capture in this whisky.

What does the Glen Scotia Double Cask single malt whisky taste like?

The tasting notes of the new whisky have also been released:

Nose: Notes of strawberry and red berries, layered with soft honey-sweetness.
Palate: Waves of ripe red fruit, soft oak notes and a distinctive maritime salt tone.
Finish: Long and refined with warm tannins and an elegant influence from the Bordeaux barrels.

The whisky is bottled at 46 percent alcohol by volume (ABV).
