Whiskey and music have always gone hand in hand, but sometimes that connection turns into something tangible. Chris Stapleton has once again teamed up with Harlen Wheatley of Buffalo Trace Distillery to push Traveller Whiskey into bolder territory.
Originally launched in 2024, the blend is now getting a high-proof upgrade. The new expression jumps from 45% ABV (90 proof) to 60.5% ABV (121 proof), unlocking a more intense side of the whiskey.

How does the Traveller Whisky Blend No. 40 Taste?

At the center of this release is Traveller Whiskey Blend No. 40, now presented in a Full Proof style. According to Harlen Wheatley, master distiller at Buffalo Trace Distillery, increasing the proof brings forward flavors that are less noticeable in the original blend. The profile leans into tones of caramelized sugar, baking spices, and toasted oak.
The master distiller points out that this blend responds differently to proof changes compared to traditional straight bourbons, resulting in a distinctly unique expression.
‘When we started experimenting with proof in Traveller’s blended recipe, flavours and finishes came to the forefront that aren’t as apparent in the 90-proof blend. It’s remarkable how different the blended recipe responds to proof variation compared to our straight Bourbons. We think where we’ve landed is a completely unique offering that every whiskey drinker should try.’

A collaboration rooted in passion

The partnership between Stapleton and Buffalo Trace continues to build on a shared appreciation for whiskey. When Traveller Whiskey was first introduced in 2024, it was already closely tied to Stapleton’s personal taste and involvement. That connection carries through into this higher-proof release.
Stapleton himself explained that the decision came after tasting multiple Full Proof versions backstage, where the 121 proof stood out clearly as the favorite. According to him, it keeps the same approachable character, but amplifies it in all the right ways.

Where to get the new Traveller Whiskey?

With this new Full Proof release, Traveller Whiskey takes a clear step away from its original profile and into more intense territory. It’s still built on the same foundation, but with more depth, more power, and a longer finish. For fans of the original, this is essentially the same DNA, just turned up several notches.
The new expression is available through retailers, bars, and restaurants across the United States for just 39,99 dollars.
