Dr. Bill Lumsden, Director of Whisky Creation and Master Distiller at Glenmorangie, is a curious person. For over a quarter of a century, he has been pondering the question 'What if..?'.

That curiosity now manifests itself in the latest addition to the distillery's core range: The Altus.

What is Glenmorangie The Altus 25 Year Old whisky?

The new Glenmorangie whisky is a single malt that initially matured in designer bourbon barrels custom-made for the distillery. Lumsden then transferred the whisky into Malmsey Madeira barrels for an extended finish.

Lumdsen describes the whisky as ‘a celebration of the Glenmorangie house style at a new pinnacle of flavor’.

What are the Glenmorangie The Altus whisky tasting notes?

The tasting notes of the Glenmorangie The Altus 25 Year Old whisky are as follows:

Nose: Silky smooth with a bouquet of carnation, rose, orange blossom and honey. In addition, ripe peach, vanilla, almond and a hint of nutty toffee.
Palate: Mandarin, apple, pear and peach, balanced with gooseberries and yellow plum. Additionally notes of butterscotch, oak wood, marzipan, powdered sugar and ripe banana.
Finish: Long and harmonious with an elegant sweet taste.

The whisky is bottled at 43 percent alcohol by volume (ABV).

Where is Glenmorangie The Altus available?

The whisky is now available in the Glenmorangie visitor center and at selected specialty stores in the UK. The suggested retail price is 550 pounds (or 648.95 euros). A European release is expected, but has not yet been officially announced.

Fun Fact: The Glenmorangie The Altus whisky was given a finish in Malmsey Madeira barrels. This is a nod to the first Madeira finish release by the Highland distillery.
