Whisky in Asia is booming. Thailand is also throwing its hat into the ring of international whiskies. Prakaan whisky from Bangkok is now being rolled out worldwide.
The whisky comes from Thai Beverage (ThaiBev), headquartered in Bangkok. The aim is to put Thai whisky firmly on the global map.
Last year, several editions of Prakaan whisky were released domestically, but now it’s the rest of the world’s turn. The brand will launch first in the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, with other markets such as the United States to follow.
There’s no specific word yet on the Netherlands or Belgium, but chances are Prakaan whisky will eventually reach those countries as well.

Where is the Prakaan whisky brand made?

The whisky hails from the PRAKAAN Single Malt Whisky distillery in Kamphaeng Phet province. It’s a beautiful destination for visitors, as the distillery sits within the Western Forest Complex, part of the UNESCO World Heritage site.
Veronica Amago, Global Sales Director at International Beverage, is thrilled about this next step.
'Prakaan Distillery is the result of care, precision and skilled planning. Our whisky is defined by the craft and expertise of our formidable whisky creation team in Kamphaeng Phet. The inaugural Tribura Series is a celebration of their achievements. We are proud and honored to share it with the world today.'

Where does the name Prakaan come from?

The origin of the whisky’s name is also known. In Thai, “Prakaan” means “wall” or “fort,” inspired by the wall that once surrounded Kamphaeng Phet.

Which Prakaan whiskies have been released so far?

Last year saw the release of three different whiskies:
  • Select Cask
  • Double Cask
  • Peated Malt
Together, these whiskies form The Tribura Series. The series draws inspiration from Thailand’s history and the three layers of the ancient wall.
