In recent years, India has been steadily winning over the whisky world, led by names like Amrut. Now the Indian distillery has decided it’s time for a revolution, not an uprising, but one in a bottle. Amrut has unveiled a single malt that quite literally bears the name “revolution”: Amrut Kranthi Indian Single Malt Whisky.

From Bengaluru, the distillery introduces Amrut Kranthi, a new Indian single malt whisky that symbolizes the rise of Indian whisky on the global stage.

Amrut Kranthi aims to usher Indian single malt into a new chapter

Kranthi loosely translates to “revolution” in Hindi. And according to Amrut, that’s exactly what this new single malt represents: the evolution of Indian whisky from a curiosity to a serious international category. The real question, of course, is whether that revolution truly shows up in the glass.

The new Amrut isn’t just a whisky with a revolutionary name. It looks back to the distillery’s founding in 1948 in Bangalore, traces the development of Indian single malt whisky, and looks ahead to the future. It also serves as a tribute to the father of Rakshit N. Jagdale, managing director of Amrut Distilleries.

What does Amrut Kranthi taste like?

The new Amrut whisky carries no age statement. The cask selection hasn’t been disclosed either, but the distillery has fortunately shared plenty about the flavor. Below are the tasting notes for Amrut Kranthi:

Nose: dominant tropical fruit followed by floral aromas. Sweet, pomelo-like citrus brings freshness, while a subtle hint of coconut appears in the background.
Palate: again, abundant tropical fruit and bright citrus, layered with gentle tannins, creamy vanilla, and a light spice. The texture is described as soft, rounded, and notably creamy.
Finish: clean and fresh, with lingering sweet citrus and soft tannins that fade slowly.

Amrut Kranthi is bottled at 40% alcohol by volume (ABV).
