Michter’s Once Again Releases One of the World’s Rarest Whiskeys

This month, Michter’s Distillery released “one of the most exclusive whiskeys” in the world: Michter’s Celebration Sour Mash. It marks the fifth edition of this coveted release. So what exactly is it?
Michter’s Distillery has unveiled a new edition of its Celebration Sour Mash whiskey. The American whiskey returns for the fifth time and, once again, is available in an extremely limited run.
What is Michter’s Celebration Sour Mash whiskey?
The 2025 edition of Michter’s Celebration Sour Mash is a marriage of seven casks from the distillery’s rickhouses: four Kentucky Straight Rye barrels and three Kentucky Straight Bourbon barrels, each selected through a meticulous evaluation process.
What makes this cask combination unique is the age of the whiskeys involved. The youngest component is over 12 years old, while the oldest has matured for more than 30 years.
Andrea Wilson, Michter’s Master of Maturation, describes the process as something special.

How does Michter’s Celebration Sour Mash taste?
Bringing together whiskey from these casks creates a distinctive flavor profile worthy of such a rare liquid. While no official tasting notes have been shared, it’s described as a balanced, deeply layered whiskey with spicy undertones and an elegant sweetness.
It’s bottled at 112.2 proof, which equates to 57.6% alcohol by volume (ABV).

With just 315 bottles worldwide, the 2025 edition is exceedingly scarce. The price is set at 6,000 dollars per bottle. It’s available directly through the website of the American distillery. It’s not known whether shipping is offered outside the United States.

Unfortunately, the evidence you referred to consists only of two people talking about the whisky, without any explanation or identification. We have not spoken to the individuals in the video ourselves, nor can we verify who they are. We describe it as a Chinese whisky because it is released by a Chinese distillery. - Let's keep this factually correct. Pernod Ricard DID NOT release a Chinese whisky. Their first output from The Chuan (the name of the distillery in Sichuan, China) wasn't fit for bottling. What they actually bottled was imported Scotch whisky. This is why the product is called "PURE MALT" and not "Chinese Whisky" - because Pure Malt is not a regulated term - this is not a secret. This was exposed about a week after they released it. There were even videos about their own staff on site admitting it was made from imported whisky - which Pernod Ricard got the lawyers onto to get the video pulled.
