Macallan bottles its 12 Year Old at a higher strength
A remarkable bottle has been filled in
Scotland’s Speyside. While The Macallan typically bottles its 12 Year Old at 40%
alcohol by volume (ABV), this release is different. The new edition of the 12-year-old single malt is bottled at 110 proof (55% ABV).
The whisky matured primarily in European sherry oak casks, with additional influence from American sherry-seasoned casks. It’s then bottled at the higher strength for an extra kick.
Thanks to the higher ABV, this new Macallan delivers tasting notes distinct from the standard bottling. It’s notably more powerful on the palate and offers rounder, richer tones.
What are the tasting notes of The Macallan 12 Year Old 110 Proof?
Below are the whisky’s tasting notes:
- Nose: Aromas of baked figs, plum jam, nutmeg, and a hint of orange peel.
- Palate: Layers of toffee apple, Christmas cake, dark honey, clove, and roasted hazelnut with cocoa.
- Finish: Notes of treacle, rich sherry sweetness, and gentle oak spice.
