What do you get when you blend the world of single malt whisky with the technical precision of Formula 1? Glenfiddich answers that question once again with a brand-new release. The Speyside distillery has teamed up with the Aston Martin Formula One Team to launch a new 16-year-old limited edition. For this new whisky, no fewer than five different cask types were used.

The full name is quite a mouthful: Glenfiddich & Aston Martin Formula One Team 16-Year-Old Limited Edition Release No. 2. As the name suggests, this is the successor to the first 16-year-old whisky that debuted last year from the collaboration between the two brands.

Glenfiddich became an official partner of Aston Martin’s Formula 1 team in 2024. Since then, several exclusive bottlings have appeared, including a 19-year-old whisky for travel retail. With Release No. 2, the 16-year-old single malt now gets a follow-up. Is it very different from the first?

Glenfiddich uses five different cask types

The new whisky features a striking composition. Brian Kinsman, Glenfiddich Malt Master, worked in tandem with Adrian Newey, Managing Technical Partner of the Aston Martin Formula One Team. Newey is best known as one of the most influential designers in Formula 1 history.

Much like designing a race car, the new whisky is all about balance, precision, and bringing different components together. For maturation and finishing, first-fill bourbon barrels, port pipes, oloroso sherry casks, red wine casks, and fino sherry casks were used. That last cask type is a new addition compared to the earlier release.

The combination of five cask types is intended to create a richer, more structured whisky, while keeping the fruit-forward character Glenfiddich is known for clearly in play.

How does the new Glenfiddich Aston Martin whisky taste?

According to the first tasting notes, the whisky has a soft, silky texture. The nose reveals stewed fruit, floral aromas, and marzipan. Full tasting notes below:
