Big Peat 6 Year Old Double Gran Cru Edition whisky
Douglas Laing is cleverly leaning into the winter season. After a peated Timorous Beastie, Big Peat now arrives with a special release. This smoky Islay whisky has been given a wine-cask influence.
FAQ
  • What kind of whisky is Big Peat?
A peated blend of Islay whiskies.
  • Where is Douglas Laing based?
    In Glasgow, Scotland.
  • What inspired Big Peat’s illustration?
    An Islay fisherman.
The colder it gets, the more a peated whisky hits the spot. But what happens when you layer Big Peat’s smoky character with sumptuous wine-driven notes? Douglas Laing answers with the new Big Peat 6 Year Old Double Grand Cru Edition.

Big Peat 6 Year Old Double Grand Cru Edition features double maturation

As ever, Big Peat is a blended malt composed of single malts from Islay. Think Ardbeg for that medicinal edge, Port Ellen for elegance, and Caol Ila for a touch of sweetness.
The spirit was married and then matured in Bordeaux casks, followed by a finishing spell in Rioja casks. As with all Douglas Laing whiskies, it’s bottled at natural cask strength.

What are the tasting notes of the Big Peat 6 Year Old Grand Cru Edition?

Thanks to the influence of the wine casks, smoky Big Peat takes on a deeper layer packed with fruit and chocolate. Expect red berries, espresso, and warming spices alongside the signature barbecue smoke that Big Peat is famous for.
The finish is long and warming, with roasted oak and gentle tannins. Of course there is a big element of smoke here too.

Where can you buy the new Big Peat whisky?

This special edition of Big Peat is limited to 330 bottles. Priced at €84.95, it’s available from Douglas Laing. It has not been announced whether bottles will reach retail shops.
