The Raasay Distillery is located on the island of Raasay in Scotland and is a relatively new distillery that began production in 2017. The distillery is known for producing single malt Scotch whisky. The Isle of Raasay is similar in size and shape to Manhattan Island and has only 160 residents. Today, over ten percent of the island works in the distillery. This is something you often see in the whisky world. The aqua vitae provides significant employment.

What should you know about The Isle of Raasay whisky?

The whisky matures in a combination of first-fill bourbon barrels and locally produced oak barrels, which determines the character of the island's terroir. The distillery is housed in the nineteenth-century Borodale House and provides additional employment for the local population. As the only distillery in Scotland, you can stay in the distilling building and the accompanying restaurant offers a spectacular view over part of the island. The Isle of Raasay Single Malt R-02.1 whisky is the second single malt from this Scottish distillery and is characterized by a lightly peated character. Aroma  Light peat with baked plums, red apples and cherries to earthy smoke with vanilla and a hint of flint
Taste     A light mineral quality of pebble, crackling peat smoke, dark caramel with a creamy oak and a little pepper
Finish      Just a hint of smoke on a pillow of salted nuts, butterscotch, and sweet oak tar.
