People love having a choice. And that’s exactly what Annandale Distillery in Scotland is offering now. Four Scotch single malt whiskies have been drawn from sherry casks. These casks have been at the heart of the distillery’s program for years, and now they’ve given rise to four different whiskies, each with a unique, distinctive flavor profile.

Fino or Oloroso?

Annandale Distillery has been working with sherry casks of all shapes and sizes for years. The distillery has now unveiled no fewer than four whiskies from two different types of casks, instantly offering something to delight every whisky lover.
One pair of whiskies comes from Oloroso casks and the other from Fino sherry casks. In each pair, one is peated and the other is not. Below are all four bottles at a glance:
  • Man O’Words Fino Sherry Butt (Cask 396)
  • Man O’Words Oloroso Sherry (Cask 582)
  • Man O’Sword Fino Sherry (Cask 342)
  • Man O’Sword Oloroso Sherry (Cask 598)

New unpeated Man O’Words

With the Man O’Words Fino Sherry Butt (Cask 396), Annandale has had a whisky maturing since 2018 that’s now been bottled at 61.1% alcohol by volume (ABV). It’s unpeated, showing notes of almond and gentle nuttiness over a fruity base.
In contrast, the Man O’Words Oloroso Sherry (Cask 582) matured in an ex-Oloroso hogshead from 2020 and was bottled at 60.9% ABV. On the palate, raisins, baked fruit, demerara sugar, and spiced oak take the lead.

The peated Man O’Sword whiskies

For smoke lovers, the Man O’Sword range brings extra intrigue. The Man O’Sword Fino Sherry (Cask 342) marries spiced tea, sweet molasses, and subtle wisps of smoke in a well-balanced whole.
The Man O’Sword Oloroso Sherry (Cask 598) spent its entire maturation in an ex-Oloroso hogshead. The whisky weaves rich sherry sweetness together with deep smoke, warming spices, and dark molasses.

Where can you buy Annandale’s whiskies?
