Ireland, the fifth
Irish whiskey release in
Redbreast’s Iberian Series has been launched. This single pot still whiskey marries Redbreast’s signature silky mouthfeel with the sun-drenched character of Spain. Here’s everything you need to know about the new Irish whiskey.
Redbreast has unveiled the fifth release in its much-loved Iberian Series. This whiskey is a nod to the summer months just around the corner, thanks to a finishing period in Moscatel wine casks.
What is the Redbreast Moscatel Wine Cask Edition?
The casks selected for this release come from the hills of Málaga, Spain, sourced from the renowned winery Bodegas Quitapenas. Before being transferred to these casks, the Irish single pot still whiskey had already undergone an extensive maturation in other barrels. The spirit began life in ex-American whiskey casks and Spanish Oloroso sherry casks.
It was then married in Moscatel-seasoned hogsheads for a final flourish of flavor. This finishing period brings brighter fruit notes and a lift of florals.
How does Redbreast Moscatel Wine Cask Finish taste?
The tasting notes for the whiskey are as follows:
- Nose: Bursts of citrus, mandarin, and orange zest, layered with chamomile spice, nutmeg, and shaved cedarwood; vanilla, floral honey, and fruit. A final touch of black pepper and clove.
- Palate: A lively opening of pear, lime, and green apple, followed by toffee honeycomb and vanilla. Wood spices develop with cinnamon and nutmeg, accented by delicate floral tones.
- Finish: Long and warming with classic pot still spice.
The Redbreast Moscatel Wine Cask Edition is available in very limited quantities. It was recently introduced at a festival and sold out immediately thereafter.
Where can you buy the Redbreast Moscatel Wine Cask Edition?
The Redbreast Moscatel Wine Cask Edition is expected to be in short supply, which will only heighten interest among whiskey enthusiasts. A bottle costs 84 pounds
on Redbreast’s website. It’s not yet known whether the whiskey will reach shelves at liquor stores and specialty retailers worldwide.
