Tobermory Ledaig Castaway whisky
On the Scottish Isle of Mull, Tobermory Distillery has bottled a new single malt that whisks you away to a deserted tropical escape. Ledaig Castaway boasts a sunny double finish: think Caribbean rum casks and Mexican tequila casks.
This limited-edition single malt matured first for several years in oak, then was finished in a combination of Caribbean rum casks and Mexican tequila casks. It’s the distillery’s first time introducing these two cask types as a finish within the Ledaig range.
Julieann Fernandez, Master Blender at Tobermory Distillery, calls the release a bold step for the brand. According to her, the rum and tequila casks add layers of fruit and citrus without losing the signature smoky character of Ledaig’s spirit.

Tasting profile: smoke, tropical fruit, and agave

With its mix of peaty smoke, rum influence, and a tequila finish, Tobermory taps into the growing demand for experimental, innovative single malts. Whisky fans seeking distinctive flavor combinations will find this release especially compelling. And the tasting notes don’t hold back.
Ledaig Castaway opens on the nose with aromas of grilled pineapple, mango, and citrus. On the palate, rich notes of agave, salted vanilla, and warm spices unfold alongside the exotic fruit. The finish is long, powerful, and smoky.
As for strength, this one packs a punch, you might even want a drop of water. It’s bottled at a robust 61.1% alcohol by volume (ABV).

Limited whisky release supports the Isle of Mull

Ledaig Castaway isn’t just an experimental whisky, it also serves a local social purpose. The release is part of Tobermory Distillery’s partnership with the Mull and Iona Community Trust, an organization dedicated to conservation and community projects on Mull and Iona.
Previous special editions have collectively raised 60,000 pounds for local initiatives. With Ledaig Castaway, the distillery is donating a further 20,000 pounds to the Ranger Service program. This service maintains walking trails and protects natural habitats on Mull, including the well-known Rubha nan Gall lighthouse, which also appears on the bottle’s label.

Where can you buy the new Ledaig Castaway whisky?
