Glen Moray has done something different this time. The distillery has revealed a new edition of the Forbidden Fruit whisky. This is the first single malt aged in Calvados casks. It is now sold throughout the UK and it introduces a new dimension to its expanding collection of experimental whiskies.
The release also belongs to the Xperience Collection, which is devoted to the attempt to experience various cask styles.
Another type of cask finish
The whisky was distilled and matured initially in the traditional way. After distillation the spirit was aged in bourbon casks for a while. After this the whisky was transferred into French oak casks that had been used to store Calvados. That is where things changed for the Forbidden Fruit whisky.
Calvados is a French apple brandy, hence the concept here was to introduce a sweeter, fruit-based personality to the whisky. Glen Moray says that the team selected these casks by examining the potential of apple notes to complement their typical
Speyside style.
Iain Allan, Glen Morays Global Brand Ambassador describes the whisky as a seductive whisky for whisky lovers.
'It is a sweet, spicy and very moreish single malt which we’re sure will be a tempting treat for whisky fans to explore, whether they are connoisseurs or new to single malts.'
