Taigh, Torabhaig Distillery’s newest Scotch whisky, featuring everything that the Isle of Skye has to offer. It's the first core range whisky from the distillery and a creation of peat and sweet flavors to cherish. This is why this whisky is defining the distillery.
The distillery’s first-ever permanent core range
Until now,
Torabhaig has been showing what it can do. With Taigh, it shows what it wants to be. The
signature creation of one of the only two single malt distilleries on this Scottish island was formally unveiled last March 25th.
This first permanent core range expression sets the tone going forward. Not aggressively peated, but carefully balanced. A style where smoke supports the whisky instead of dominating it.
Pronounced as 'tie, Torabhaig Taigh literally means “house” in the Scottish Gaelic dialect or language. This name references the restored steading from the 1800s. It houses the stills, as well as the Sleat Peninsula community.
Dried fruits by the seaside
Situated within the Inner Hebrides, the Isle of Skye is known for dramatic and rugged landscapes, not to mention its moody, misty weather. The Taigh gives a notable nod to that landscape, but with a sweet twist. Below are its tasting notes:
- Nose: Aroma's of apple pie with maple syrup, and cloves, cinnamon spices, and cereal biscuits by the seaside and tones of smoke.
- Palate: The smooth, oily mingling of vanilla custard, toasted almond, and sweet dried fruits.
- Finish: Gentle yet spirited, with toasted oak and a sprightly touch of tannin.
Taigh is bottled at 46% without chill-filtration or coloring.
Inspired by a famous poet
Did you know that this Scotch whisky is also launched in collaboration with the famous Scottish poet Iona Lee? This 30-year-old poet, Lee, is known for her works, such as “The Past Is Just a Tale We Tell” and “Anamnesis.”
Neil MacLeod Mathieson, whisky maker at Torabhaig explains the whisky is a big part of the story since the very beginning of the distillery, even though we are only getting it now.
'Taigh is the heart of Torabhaig. It captures everything we’ve been working towards since we first started distilling, a whisky with elegance, balance and character, where smoke enhances the flavour rather than dominating it.'
