It is often said that in the months with an R, it's essential to top up on vitamins. Well, let's add some excitement to that and offer you our cocktail of the month for October. How about the R in Rye?
This month's cocktail is the Sazerac Rye The Sazerac. This is a delicious cocktail, wonderfully flavorful, that you can make in an instant. But be warned, it's highly addictive, and before you know it, you'll be serving this cocktail to all your guests visiting in October (provided they are 18 years or older, of course!).

Which whiskey is used in this cocktail?

This delicious cocktail is made with the one and only Sazerac Rye Whiskey. A whiskey with an array of flavors that you can secure for between four and five tens. Expect a fantastic interplay of spicy notes, mixed with citrus and vanilla. So, it's the perfect choice for mixing into a cocktail!
According to the importer of this brand, De Monnik Dranken, the tasting notes are as follows:
  • Nose: Aromas of clove, vanilla, anise, and pepper.
  • Palate: Subtle notes of pepper, citrus, and dark chocolate.
  • Finish: Smooth with hints of licorice.

What ingredients do you need for Sazerac Rye The Sazerac?

You don't need many ingredients to make this cocktail. Visit your local store and fill your basket with the following ingredients:
  • 45ml Sazerac Rye Straight Rye Whiskey
  • 1 sugar cube
  • 1/2 tablespoon Absinthe
  • Garnish: Lemon peel
The last ingredient is of course optional, but let's admit it: presentation matters. After all, the garnish on a cocktail is the proverbial cherry on top.

How do you make the Sazerac Rye The Sazerac?

Making this cocktail is not difficult. Here are the steps:
Step 1: Fill an Old-Fashioned glass with ice. Why? To cool down the glass and give you time to prepare your best cocktail moves.
Step 2: Take a second glass and place a sugar cube in it. Pour a little Peychaud’s Bitters and water over it. Next, break up the sugar cube. Easy peasy.
Step 3: Now for the real deal: the whiskey, Sazerac Rye. Pour this elixir of life into your sugar mix and stir briefly.
Step 4: Go back to your first glass and remove the ice. Rinse the glass with a dash of absinthe to leave a trace of its flavor. Discard the rest.
Step 5: Pour your mix from the second glass into the first and garnish with a piece of lemon peel. Congratulations, you’ve just made a Sazerac, essentially New Orleans in a glass.
For a fleeting moment, you may feel like a bona fide cocktail master, but the most important thing of all: you now have a delicious cocktail.
Here’s to October!
