Not only does the bottle look like it’s from another world, there’s also a story behind the name that spans decades. The first TIME : SPACE appeared in 2024, when The Macallan celebrated its 200th anniversary. It turns out not to be a one-off, as the series is about to get a new chapter with TIME : SPACE Sherry Cask. This new whisky continues the theme, but does so with a starring role for sherry casks and the Spanish bodega Valdespino.

Where does the name The Macallan TIME: SPACE come from?

The name The Macallan TIME: SPACE refers to a journey through time. With the first release in the series, The Macallan set out to look back at the distillery’s past while also looking ahead to its future.

The past is represented by a whisky distilled in 1940 and finally bottled in 2024 at 84 years of age. That makes it the oldest whisky The Macallan has ever officially released. Set against it is a much younger whisky from 2018. At 5 years old, it carries important symbolic meaning.

It is the first released whisky distilled at The Macallan’s new distillery, which opened its doors in 2018. In this way, two completely different moments in the brand’s history converge. One whisky looks far back in time, while the other stands as a symbol of what’s still to come.

The new TIME : SPACE also embraces a striking duality

In the new TIME : SPACE Sherry Cask, the idea of two worlds returns, but in a different way. Where the original TIME : SPACE literally brought together two whiskies of different ages in a single decanter, this new release is a 20-year-old single malt. This time, the duality lies in how the whisky was shaped by sherry casks.

The whisky began its journey in a selection of predominantly European oak sherry casks. It was then combined and further influenced by a selection drawn from the first 200 casks seasoned with sherry from Valdespino. Once again, the TIME : SPACE concept connects different moments: the whisky builds on The Macallan’s past, while the new collaboration with Valdespino points firmly toward the future.
