Take a look outside. Tomorrow night at 1:56 a.m., a full moon will light up the sky. There’s a legend tied to this phenomenon, one Glen Scotia honors in one of its latest bottlings: the Wulver. The name sounds more menacing than it really is. Time to dive into the story behind the label.
Glen Scotia The Wulver sounds like a whisky you shouldn’t uncork after midnight on a full moon. This Icons of Campbeltown release revolves around a shadowy legend steeped in mystery. The creature on the bottle is the third in the series, following the Mermaid and the Dragon. Meet the Wulver.

Glen Scotia The Wulver: Campbeltown’s wolf

The Wulver is the third release in Glen Scotia’s Icons of Campbeltown series. The collection draws inspiration from the Market Cross in Campbeltown, where ancient figures, saints, and beasts are carved in stone. Glen Scotia uses this local iconography to bring the town’s stories to life.
The Wulver hails from Scottish folklore. At first glance you might think of a bloodthirsty werewolf, but that’s not what this is. The Wulver is a wolf-like being with a surprisingly generous heart.
According to legend, he lived apart from the townsfolk of Campbeltown and never harmed them, in fact, he helped them. He fished with a spear and shared his catch with those in need.
Glen Scotia uses this single malt to tell Campbeltown’s story too, leaning on the resilience of this Scottish whisky region. Once hailed as the whisky capital of Scotland, Campbeltown eventually dwindled to just a handful of distilleries.

Not a whisky with claws, but plenty of depth

The Glen Scotia Icons of Campbeltown whisky suits the Wulver’s character perfectly. A 12-year-old, it’s been finished for nine months in Tawny Port casks, layering in bold notes of forest fruits, caramel, and roasted nuts.
You can also expect a gentle spice and that signature maritime Campbeltown character. The finish brings a hint of cocoa and a clear burst of berry.
The whisky is bottled at 51.7 percent alcohol by volume (ABV).

A limited release in a striking series

Glen Scotia The Wulver is a limited-edition whisky that forms part of a standout series. This is the third release, and a fourth is sure to follow soon—though which one remains under wraps.
