SLYRs Ice Wine Cask
In Germany, the end of an era is marked by a remarkable whisky. The SLYRS Single Malt Whisky Aged 12 Years Ice Wine Cask Finish brings a legendary series to a close. It is the final special 12-year-old edition from SLYRS and it’s an exceptionally distinctive whisky.
This new SLYRS single malt began its journey high in the Bavarian Alps. It first matured for 11 years in American white oak, which lends it its soft, rounded character. Then came a special finishing touch in ice wine casks from Moldova, and that’s where things got interesting.
Those ice wine casks introduced a whole new dimension to the whisky. Expect elegant sweetness, vibrant fruit, and added depth to the flavor profile.

What do ice wine casks do to whisky?

The casks previously held ice wines made from Muscat Ottonel, Gewürztraminer, and Riesling, grapes known for their expressive aromatics. During the finish, the casks impart subtle notes of ripe fruit, grapes, and honey. The result is a whisky beautifully balanced between sweet, fruity, and lightly spiced.

How does SLYRS 12 Years Ice Wine Cask Finish taste?

According to the German distiller, the whisky offers a layered, nuanced profile. In the glass, this single malt shows a golden hue with warm, coppery highlights.
On the nose, it opens with vanilla, honey, and caramel, followed by aromas of grape and apricot. Behind that are gentle floral notes, a hint of spice, and a subtle touch of nutmeg.
On the palate, the whisky is soft and rounded. You’ll taste orange, salted caramel, and light fruit tones. An elegant sweetness is beautifully balanced by a fresh note of peach and a delicate acidity. The finish is long, fruity, and harmonious, with lingering notes of ripe fruit, vanilla, and grape.
The whisky is bottled at 43% alcohol by volume (ABV).

A bottle for collectors

With just 989 bottles worldwide, this is a whisky for collectors and fans of unusual finishes. The combination of long maturation, rare ice wine casks, and the fact that this is the final edition in the series makes this release especially compelling.
Anyone hoping to secure a bottle should act quickly. Pre-orders open on March 11 on the distillery’s website at 209.90 euros per bottle. The whisky launches on March 13.
