Tormore Distillery hasn’t released a new whisky in years. Ever since Elixir Distillers acquired the distillery in 2022, whisky fans have been eager to see a fresh direction for this Speyside producer. Now we know what that looks like: Tormore is back! The distillery has unveiled three new single malts that immediately form the brand’s core range.
They are Tormore Timeless, Tormore 12 Year Old, and Tormore 16 Year Old Sherry Cask. These bottles are the first ongoing official Tormore releases since the early 2000s.
From blend workhorse to single malt brand
Nestled in the Cromdale Hills of Speyside, the distillery spent decades primarily producing whisky for blends. Under previous owner Pernod Ricard, it supplied spirit for the likes of Ballantine’s and Chivas Regal.
Elixir Distillers wants to change that. Co-founder Sukhinder Singh calls Tormore a spirit he has always respected. In his view, the distillery already made a fine, fruit-forward distillate, but its character hadn’t been fully optimised. Following the acquisition, they examined every aspect of production from the ground up.
Meet the 3 new Tormore whiskies
That effort has now resulted in a completely new line-up from the Scottish maker. Here’s what to expect:
Tormore Timeless is the gateway to the new range, designed to showcase the distillery’s character. This no-age-statement whisky is drawn primarily from bourbon casks. Tasting notes include fresh vanilla, lemon zest, peach tea, and honeysuckle. It’s bottled at 43 percent alcohol by volume (ABV) with an RRP of £41.95 per bottle.
Tormore 12 Year Old is a combination of bourbon casks, toasted American oak casks, and casks specially seasoned with cream sherry. Expect notes of peach tart, roasted almonds, coconut, poached pear, and cream. It’s bottled at 46 percent ABV and priced at £54.95.
The oldest whisky in the line-up is Tormore 16 Year Old Sherry Cask. This single malt was finished in American and European oak sherry casks. Look for blackberry jam, vanilla fudge, lemon oil, and dates. It’s bottled at 46.8 percent ABV and costs £79.95.
More Tormore on the way
The new range clearly puts the spotlight on distillery character. Oliver Chilton, the distillery’s head blender, explains that the fruity spirit needs careful handling, as peach and pear notes can easily be overshadowed by excessive oak. He also hints that more is coming.
'We’re going to introduce an 18-year-old and a 21-year-old in early 2027,” he says. “I have one supplier in Kentucky that we’ll talk about next year, who does all of our casks for the 18-year-old. We’re also working really closely with some cooperages in France on fine-grained French oak, particularly around Sauternes, that will make up something for our 21-year-old.'
