The Heart Club Slow Whisky
Independent bottler The Heart Cut has launched a new subscription program that will transform the way individuals experience whisky. The Slow Whisky Club is built on a straightforward concept: paying attention to a single distillery rather than switching between styles.
It is created as a monthly experience, and it provides the members with a better insight into the process of making whisky and what defines its taste.

A slow method of whisky discovery

The service features one distillery every month, and it may be a household name or a lesser-known, emerging producer. The concept is to not just taste but to learn the people, process and story of every whisky.
This strategy is similar to the way The Heart Cut already chooses its single cask releases, whereby it is not only popular but also about character and provenance.

The contents of the monthly membership

Based on their plan, subscribers get one or two 30ml Pocket Pours, tasting cards and digital content. The additional content consists of tasting videos and behind-the-scenes information that is aimed at explaining how the whisky was produced and why it has the flavor it has.
New members are also offered a welcome pour of the brand's Barley release and then proceed into the regular monthly cycle.

Pricing and member benefits

The subscription will be based on one sample at 9.90 pounds per month, or two at 17.80 Pounds per Month, including shipping. Other added benefits are offered to the members, which include a discount on the release of the brand Barley.
Its price makes it affordable, particularly to people who want to drink whisky regularly, but not necessarily full-size bottles.

A separate focus on the trade

In addition to the consumer launch, The Heart Cut has also launched a programme targeting hospitality professionals. It is referred to as Passing the Dram and is a rotating membership to bartenders in the selected cities in UK.
The concept is straightforward, a subscriber is given the subscription of three months and then he/she forwards to another person in his/her local industry. This eventually forms a network of mutual knowledge and suggestions in the trade.

A community-driven concept

The founders claim that their personal experience in the hospitality industry affected this aspect of the launch. They regard it as a means of promoting learning in the industry without making the experience formal and private.
In the case of a subscription model, this emphasis does not seem to be as much about volume as it does to be more about developing a deeper relationship between drinkers, distilleries, and the stories behind each dram.
