Ardbeg invited 100 loyal Committee members from 15 countries to take part in a covert tasting experiment. At the time, the Ardbeg Committee community was celebrating its 25th anniversary, which became the perfect reason for the experiment.

Participants were served five different unreleased Ardbeg expressions to compare against the classic Ten bottling. What these Committee members didn’t know was that their preferences would help shape the development of Ardbeg Eureka.

The experiment showed a clear preference among tasters for Pedro Ximénez sherry casks.

So what about the BizarreBQ experiment? It used twice-toasted casks that had previously held Pedro Ximénez sherry, leaving behind flavors, aromas, and color. And that wasn’t the only thing shaping the whisky’s profile—specially designed casks were also used to infuse this batch with BBQ character.

How they got those intense BBQ notes and aromas into the casks remains a closely guarded secret. The tasting notes, however, leave no doubt: there’s unmistakable barbecue influence. These experimental barbecue casks add a smoky, grill-fired twist to the classic Ardbeg experience.
